At the age of 29, Philip J. Frewing was made a mason in 1911/12 at Lamar Lodge, No. 90, in Lamar, Colorado. A charter member of Ridgefield Lodge, No. 237, Bro. Frewing served first as Junior Warden in 1921, Senior Warden in 1922, and Worshipful Master in 1923.
The Man
Philip James Frewing was born 18 March 1882 in Kent, England. He married Isabelle Mary Thomas in March 1906 in Amity, Colorado.
He is listed as a plasterer in the 1910 Census for Lamar, Col., a farmer in the 1920 South Ridgefield Precinct Census, and plasterer & farmer in 1940.
On July 24th 1950, at the age of 68, Bro. Frewing left this plane for the Celestial Lodge, his body now resting at the Ridgefield Cemetery.
And
Worshipful Bro. Frewing was second tenor at Ridgefield Community Church, where he was an elder. (Fred Herbert was first tenor then; Rev. George V. McClure, first bass; and Bradford L. Gaukel, second bass.) [Oct. 1921]
He also tended to repair of Ridgefield High School after a "fire of unknown origin" in late December 1921 caused up to an estimated $2,500 in damage to the domestic department room, adjoining hallway, and other property.
Also
Thirty-five years after Worshipful Bro. Philips's year in the East, his own son, Philip James Frewing Jr., also served as Worshipful Master of this same Lodge.
